Default Time Limits on a Script

I have a PHP script reading data from a weather station which is set to run for 24 hrs before restarting the web page. THe script often stops with an out of time error message.

I have tried setting set_time_limit to a very large number near the start of the script eg (100000) but the program still stops before the 24 hrs is up.

The meta dat on the page is:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="Tue, 01 Jan 1980 1:00:00 GMT">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="10">

so the page restarts after 10 seconds.

Any suggestions on how to get the script running reliably for 24 hrs?

Thanks
