Subject: Struggling with Configuration
Posted By: RPG SEARCH Post Date: 9/25/2004 5:20:15 PM
Hi there,

I got a new laptop, it came with windows xp home edition, i couldnt find a way of deleting it (it was so easy in win98), so i installed my copy of professional over the top. It all says that professional is the operating system now. It already had .NET Configuration installed, so i just installed ISS on to it. Installed Web Matrix. But if i click on the icon to launch the page in web matrix and start to do anything it throws up errors. It will not process the asp.net page as it should as i can see all the code.

I dont know why this is happening. Is it steming from the Home Edition being underneath? I wish I had stuck with my desktop now!

Thanks for any help you can come up with.

First of all about the OS.  Why didn't you just format the hard drive and install XP Pro on a blank hard drive (or boot from the CD and do a fresh install)?  There really shouldn't be anything difficult about installing a fresh copy of Windows XP.

Second, what are the errors that you are getting?

You still need to install the .NET framework onto XP Pro, despite the fact that you had it installed on XP Home.

As suggest earlier also, its best to install Windows XP Professional Edition after formatting the Hard Drive then Install IIS and in last .NET Framework or complete visual Studio.
