Subject: Problem creating user-level security

Hello everyone,

I am trying to create a new MDW file using the Workgroup Administrator, but I keep getting an error and I don't know how to fix it.

Here is a link to a step-by-step picture example of what I did and the resulting error message. Please take a look and give me any ideas you may have on how to fix it.

BTW, I am running Access 2000 under Windows XP sp2.

Thanks!

If this is a shared database, your set -up of security should have created a new .mdw file in a network folder. Use that network folder's .mdw file. You are using the one in your PC, which is not the one that you need to link to.

Or you may need to create the .mdw file in the network. Samples imply using different directories, but you should use your own.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding you... I created this database on my home PC and populated it with some test tables to use with the tutorials in this Access book. It is not on any sort of network, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Basically, I am trying to learn how to create user-level permissions for a project I have at work. I have made a supplier information database that several other people within the deparmtnet will need to use. However, because of confidentiality, these people should not be able to see other people's supplier information, only their own.

To do this, I need more control than a simple global database password. But I have been pulling my hair out trying to understand and get this security stuff to work.

Any suggestions?
