Virtualizing Instance

Hello, All!
I have many server in my company using SQL Server 7.0 and SQL Server 2000.
There are many different instances in these servers. One of the servers has 2
instances and other one has more two Instances using SQL Server. I am
creating a new server which will be Stand By of these two servers. But, If I
need to change this Standby server to Production server because a Fail or
Desaster, I will lost my Standby.
So, I would like to 'virtualize" my instances, or better, I would like to
give virtual names to these instances.
This way, if lost my Production Server, I just change this name linking to my
instance standby.
Are there any way to do it?
