when i request a page from a broswer .. the requested page is cached
i liked to know whether the page is cached in the system in which the request is made? or the cached paged resides external to the system from which the request was made

It can be both. Each browser has its own cache (if you use several browsers). For IE on Windows the cache is located at c:\windows\temporary internet files (or c:\winnt\temporary internet files).

Caching on the web can also occur. If your surf thought your ISPs proxy server it certainly does.

All about caching.
