Subject: Incremental ETL
Posted By: KelMan Post Date: 2/1/2006 2:16:59 PM
Hello,

I'm waiting for the book to arrive, so while I'm waiting, I have to ask this question to ease my anticipation. I bought the book as I have to implement an ETL solution for a DW project. The initial load procedure is pretty much straightforward. The challenge is to create an incremental load mechanism. Having a fact table with some million records of transactions, a daily load that will just move a fraction of them (the ones that occurred daily) will be far more efficient. So, the question is: Does something like that is covered in the book?

Hey KelMan,

I have the book and I am sure you have it too.
However, I am sure you have discovered that this book isn't really a solid guide to building a DW.

My recommendation would be to own this book for how to configure SSIS and "The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit" (Mundy & Thornwaite) for a description of how to use SSIS for building a DW.

Hope this helps :-)
