Hello!

Just a short question about:
UNIX, published by Wrox.

I just wonder what it means for one of the chapter : "What Do You Need to Use This Book?"

If I am working on a Windows XP plateform, should I use a specific compiler or anything else?

Thanks for your attention and reply!

Regards

The easiest way to do use the book and try out the commands is to use the Knoppix CD included with the book (Knoppix). This way you can boot your system from a cdrom without making any modifications (or installing any software) to your windows XP/98/2000 system.

If you prefer using your Windows environment, you can use cygwin which installs software to your system and allows you use most Unix commands.

Or you can install Vmware and install a virtual machine (linux flavor that suite you) on your win xp Os to try a full version of Linux (unix) or FreeBsd, Solaris for intell, etc.
