Newbie... outdated book.. advice apprciated!

Hey all... I am completely new to PHP. I have the beginning PHP 4 book. I know this is outdated.. as most texts are.. but a friend showed it to me and seemed like a very user friendly resource. ANYWAY>...
I am just starting and it is telling me the latest version is 4.0.2 or something... Of course the link they give http://php4win.de is bunk... I have read in other posts that it is best to go with the latest release.. which I am seeing is 4.4.3?
Should I go ahead with this version and wing it through the book? OR go with an older version?
With the newer version... will this book even be a benefit? Like I said I am completely new to php... so any help is greately appreciated.

I see it's been awhile since you posted this and I was wondering what you decided to do.
My experience suggests that nothing will be perfect. Just do the best with what you've got and look at many different sources when searching for solutions. You won't be able to rely on just one source.
