Conditional Formatting on Embedded Item

Hi Everyone,
I am having trouble getting my head wrapped around conditionally formatting the visiblity of a Command Button within a DataList and was wondering where I should start.
On Page_Load I know I need to open the recordset, and look at the "IsAvailable" field for each of the resources listed in the DataList - the problem is, I am not sure how to go about coding these steps in VisualBasic.
Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
