Hi there,
I have never seen this error myself before, but I Googled a bit for it. Here's what I found:
Value 1747 - "The authentication service is unknown." - Occurs when the server is set up as a domain controller but not synchronizing with the Main DC (from: http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1000&source=userenv)
Is your web server setup as a DC??
Cheers,
Imar

Hello all,
I have a similar problem with IIS.
Carefully followed all the troubleshooting mention in Beginning Dreamweaver MX (p. 28-29).
As suggested by the authors, I sent an e-mail describing the problem to support@wrox.com ---- no reply in four days.
I'm computer literate - but ceertainly not a programmer -- and fearful of getting into registry.
I'm using Windows XP Professional.
What am I to do to get (i) some help and (2) a reply from WROX.Com?
Thanks,

Well, how about a reply from an author??
What is the setup of your machine? What's the OS? 2000 / XP Pro? Do you have a network card installed? How "similar" is the problem you have to the original problem posted here? What error message or strange behavior are you getting? What does work and what does not work?
Lots of questions, but it's hard to troubleshoot without this information.
Cheers,
Imar

IIS needs RPC enabled! RPC is enable when "Clients For Microsoft Networks" is present on the system. If you do not want to use it then just disable it, do not remove it.
