Default Frontends, Backends and the Runtime

At work we created a database application using Access 2K and plan to deploy with the "backend" on a Server, some machines running full Access (2K) and some running Access Runtime. I just got 2K ODE and have been experimenting with splitting the database and also the Package and Deploy Addin.
1) When I split the database, Access ONLY created a "backend". Do I not need a "FrontEnd" that is disassociated from the backend to package with RT? If true, how do I get it?
2) If I can get a copy of the FrontEnd by itself to package with RunTime, how to I "point" it to the BackEnd on the server?

All help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Loralee

Loralee,
When you convert your database to a back-end, front-end split.
Your original database will be the linked database (meaning a front-end database). You will see after you made the split, the tables on the original database is no longer the original tables it is now the linked tables. You will still have your queries, forms, reports, I am not sure about the modules.

Then the created database will be your back-end database with only
tables in it. And how it is renamed is Original Filename.mdb will now be Filename_be.mdb.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I did notice "arrows" by the icon for each table when I opened what I thought was the untouched file. Is the "Front" inherently linked to the "back" then? (Will it maintain the link when moved to a server from the folder it resides in locally?

Loralee,
If you still have a copy of your original database, I would prefer
transferring that copy to the server you wanted. I haven't experience, copying or moving a frontend to a server, but to a share drive I do. If you frontend doesn't work, you should import tables to your frontend from your backend as a linked table for it to work.

If you move your front end and back end from one folder to another and the links do not work, delete the links from the front ent a d link them again to the back end.

Thanks, Guys. I'll try that tomorrow. I assume changing links is handled through the Link Manager? I took a look at that, but did not try changing anything in it and could not find documentation in the guides that came with ODE. It looked like I could probably just type in an new path.....?
