Default wrox designing business objects

I am reading a book WROX Designing Business Objects written in 1997

It is based on VB 5

In it one of the projects says to make a reference between a standard exe and an activex exe after compilation.

I am using VB 6 and when I try and do this I get this error

Project 'C:.....' cannot be referenced because it's project type is EXE.

have I done something wrong or is this a change between VB 5 and VB 6
