Default Does "Beginning PHP, MySQL and Apache" Exist?

Amazon states that this book was released on June 1st. But there is no further information about the book on either Amazon or the Wrox site.

So does it exist? :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...757234-1279630

Thanks,
R.

I went to the Wiley site and they were smart enought to allow users to search specifically for ISBN's. There is no entry for the following book:

Beginning PHP, MySQL and Apache
Wrox Press Ltd; ISBN: 1861009046

I then searched the Borders website, but they are in partnership with Amazon, so that was no use. So I went to Barnes & Noble. They found one entry for the title, which was published in December 2002. This was the following:

Sams Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL and Apache in 24 Hours
Sams Publsihing; ISBN: 067232489X

I think this was just a screw up on Amazon's part. Or the book was scheduled for release and Wiley witheld the book for some reason.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest visiting the APress web site and give it a search to see if the book has a release date from them. You can also e-mail them. I believe that APress bought allmost all the books that Wiley didn't.

Good Advice Hal!

Still no luck though. I searched for the title and the ISBN, still nothing. This has to be an Amazon mistake. I just emailed Amazon requesting more information. When I receive that info I will post it here.

Hi,
Wiley only purchased one PHP book - Beginning PHP 4. We are in the process of revising this book and looking into other areas to publish more here. Old Wrox did have many books that were either just published, in the works (and cataloged, which would prompt it to go to amazon.com and such), and contracted. Wiley purchased some unpublished works that we are working on to publish, but not this title.

It is my assumption that Apress purchased ALL remaining contracts from the liquidator that Wiley did not take. If a Wrox book is not 1)listed at www.wrox.com and 2) Apress is not planning to publish or distribute, then the book was not purchased and it's life expectancy is unknown.

Hope that this is helpful,

Dan,

I would e-mail Apress directly also. As Jennifer says- I believe every title that Wiley didn't buy went to Apress. In fact the only thing that Wiley didn't buy that I know APRESS didn't either is csharptoday.com. I would expect a delayed shipment date due to the need for the formatting changes that apress would do. Also, there's probably final technical reviews and stuff that were not completed before liquidation that apress needs to do.

Apress is also renegotiating the deals with the writers- I know Rocky said he needed to negotiate with them for the printing of the Expert one-on-one VB.NET Business Objects book. As far as I know it's the first of the books they bought to be printed (it was released today)

E-mail Apress and ask about the status, I am sure they would be happy to let you know.

Well I got my reply from Amazon today.

They do not respond to individuals comments, suggestions or questions. The only assistance they provide comes from their online help pages listed at:

http://www.amazon.com/help

When I scanned through these (as I did yesterday) there is no mention of confirming product details listed within the Amazon site.

This to me is a bad business practice. A simple comment from a potential customer could save them some future problems. I sent an email to APRESS yesterday after I left P2P, still haven't heard anything.

Wow, thanks a lot everyone for looking into it :D

I will certainly e-mail APRESS et al. Didnt realise the history/connections between these companies as im new to Wrox books.

Thanks again all, i'll report my findings (if any)

Would be nice if this book did exist though, i was actually looking forward to it since the beginning of May.

Thanks,
R.

It would be kind of interesting if someone who has a few extra bucks (like my boss) would go to Amazon and purchase this book. Since both Wiley and APress deny it exists, I am just a bit curious what they plan on shipping.

Dan, It's possible it never got very far in the WROX pipeline. I know someone I can ask that was at WROX and might know.
