access thread: Access 97 Oversize

Message #1 by HAMILTOT@s... on Mon, 26 Mar 2001 20:11:03
I have a database that no longer will open, Access 97 @1,048Kb - yep the

Gig. Anyone know a way to recover this? Unable to compact or repair.

How about using A2K. Any suggestions(reasonable) are appreciated.

I have fixed this problem in a couple of ways..

A2k does go to 2 gig in DB size.

Question if you have done many deletes you have space that Access will not

give back to you until you compress the database.

I would build a new(empty) database and then import the old database into

the new one.use more than one if you need too. this will give you the

space back that access will not give you now.after you do this you can

split the database into a few databases...

Yes creating new database and Importing LARGE tables and linking them into

the Master database will reduce space on the Master db. I usually do this

for archiveing data and oversize tables.
