I have an Access 97 database which I converted over to Access 2000 through
the Database conversion wizard in A2K.
The Access 97 database ran on a server located about 400 miles away and
was accessed through the network (I have no idea what our network lines
are) and the database ran fine, with only a minor performance hit
initially when the db was opened.
After I converted the database to Access 2000, the performance across the
network dropped out completely. Before, it wouldn't take any time to
simply move between records, now it takes about 12 seconds.
All tables are stored locally; there are no links to external tables. No
user-level security.
We are using Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 1 for our
desktop, a Pentium III - 500 with 256 MB RAM.
Thanks in advance for any help someone could provide.

Here are a couple of KB articles that helped me out w/similar issues.
ACC2000: Slow Performance Opening Object with Name AutoCorrect Enabled
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q200/6/00.ASP
ACC2000: Slower Performance on Linked Tables
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q261/0/00.ASP
See also the help file on the topic "Obtain optimal performance with linked
tables in a Microsoft Access database".
Also, rather than using the conversion wizard, you might try just creating a
blank A2K database and then importing all your objects into it & see if that
doesn't give you better performance.
Hope those are helpful...
Cheers,
