I don't know whether this is the right place to post this question, but per
haps one of you will have some experience with this. We copy a load of data
from an AIX box every night via an OBDC connection to Access. In the first
6 months that I worked here, it only failed twice (message: OBDC Connectio
n Failure). In the last three weeks, it has failed every night except two.
The physical link to the AIX box is fine (I can connect, log on to the soft
ware, FTP files).
Do OBDC connections get tired? Do I need to try to recreate the connection?
Or does this indicate other problems?
If anyone has run into similar problems, please let me know what I could do
that might help.
Thanks, Beverly

ODBC connections do not get tired. What happens if you do recreate it? Does
it fail again?
Check that there are no other sessions connected to the AIX box. Is there a
maximum connection limit in place. What else is occurring on the network at
the time at which it fails?
Is the computer that is obtaining the data stressed out with other tasks?
Is your network loaded heavily at that time of night?
It points to other problems.
Regards
Craig,

There aren't any procedures running on the AIS box at 7 when it fails, and
there would be few to no users logged on then. This program has been runni
ng for 2 years, so there shouldn't be any time outs that affect it.
The computer running it does only that (it can't handle anything more).
I'll use your memo to try to get some info out of the network team, as I ha
ven't been able to get them to tell me what else is happening. Thanks very
much for the thoughtful response!
