I just purchased Access 2002 and wanted to start working with MSDE as
preparation for working with SQLServer 2000 and Access. My problem is
this - I installed MSDE and the server runs fine. I created the Access
data project and then I imported a single Access table to be practising
on. TO give it a workout the table had 119,000 records. Now Access (jet)
has no problem with this many rows. Sorting finding etc. work fine. But
MSDE seems to labor mightily over this many records. Just a simple action
like asking it to go to the last record in a table seems to lock it up. I
have tried this on 2 different PC's. One is running WIndows 98 with 256 M
ram. The other is running Windows 2000 Pro. with 128 M ram. The latter
is worse, but both exhibit the same problems. I thought that MSDE would
be more powerful than Jet in handling larger tables, but this does not at
all seem to be the case.
Can somebody tell me what I might be doing wrong?
