access thread: Do we need license for mdb files

Message #1 by poztme@h... on Wed, 18 Jul 2001 07:56:20
I am developing a financial application.

I used MS access and created mdb file.

I have got licensed version of MS Access.

Do i need any separate license for distributing this mdb files

with my application.

My understanding is that you can distribute your .mdb freely, but your users

will need to purchase a copy of Access in order to use it. One other way to

go would be for you to purchase the developer edition of office, which comes

with a license to redistribute a 'run-time' version of Access.

Hope that helps.

Dear roy,

Thanks for ur reply.

You pointed out that the users need to get access license.

But the user is not going to open the mdb file using access,

i am using it only for my application and the end user is unaware of mdb

files.

Do the user still need to get the license ?

Please clarify me.

Ooh--I see. I think you'd be fine. I believe that if you've have (for

instance) a VB application that uses an .mdb just as a back-end data store

then there's no problem with including the .mdb in your package.

But I'm going off the top of my head here--it's not like I've committed the

VB EULA to memory or anything... 8^)

Hope that's helpful.
