access thread: RE: Running a wizard/Add-in problem

Message #1 by Paul Engel <pengel@s...> on Thu, 6 Sep 2001 10:56:50 -0400
Me again. No takers, yet, so I thought I would bring people up to speed on

the latest events.

I did some Help reading yesterday on Add-Ins. I thought I had figured out my

problem. I went to the add-in manager and added the import/export wizard

add-in. I still couldn't get behavior that indicated that the wizard was

available. I went back to the Add-In manager and the text box was empty.

According to the help it should have shown my newly added add-ins w/ either

an X next to them indicating they were active, or nothing, indicating they

were not. My X'ed item was no longer there. I added it back a few times, but

to no avail.

I have both Access97 and Access2K on my machine. I am working in Access2K on

this issue. The file I am trying to add in my add-in manager is:

C:\Documents and Settings\pengel\Application

Data\Microsoft\AddIns\ACWZLIB.MDE

It has a create date of 3/2/99.

When I add it in the Add-in manager, the manager seems to copy the file here

from it's source, so it is doing something right.

Any help will be appreciated. I looked at the Access Setup news group and

found two emails w/ the same problem, but no one has responded there.

Thanks,

Paul

Subject: [a/ccess] Running a wizard

This may be too elementary for this list...but I usually do stuff

manually...now I want to use a wizard. Specifically, the export wizard. I

can't for the life of me figure out how to get it started. It isn't on any

menu or toolbar. The documentation talks about wizards, but not how to run

them.

I'm really sorry for this. I promise to post only heavy technical content

from now on! :-} (Sheepish, and embarrassed grin.)

(A fair question I would say - moderator)

Hi Paul,

Not sure if this will help but I had an issue where my wizards did not

appear either. It was due to the fact that I had installed the program as

my local administrator but when I normally use Access I am logged on to

the network and therefore my registry settings did not have an entry for

the wizards. To get around this I did the following.

1. Logon with the local Admin account (just the account you used to install

Off2K and MOD2K).

2. Open Registry Editor by typing "regedit.exe". Browse to the registry

entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VBA\VBE\6.0\Addins

Export the Addins entry as a .reg file.

3. Log off the local Admin user and log on with a different user account.

4. Open Registry Editor and import the generated .reg file.

Now I have access to all my addins.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I think I accomplished the same thing by uninstalling and

reinstalling under my current UID. I noticed, though, that I don't have the

VBA\VBE\Addins key. I find an Addins under my Office\Access\Addins. I am

running Access2K under Win2KPro. Maybe it is accounted for differently on

different platforms.

My wizards now work...but when I bring up my Addin manager, the textbox is

still empty. I would expect to see the list of addins w/ x's in the box.

Nothing.

Thanks,

Paul
