This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Type: text/plain;

Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I have made up a database and copied it to a friends computer, where it

is read only.

I transferred it by burning the database onto a CD, and then copying

from the CD to his computer.

Can any one advise how I can make the Database Read-Write on the second

computer?

Appreciations for any help in advance.

Regards

Don

Don,

Go to the database and right-click it, select properties and see if the

Read Only option is checked. If it is, uncheck it.

John

Thank you once again for your help. I am unable to change the setting in

the CD or the second computer.

I think this problem comes about when I copy the program onto the CD.

The CD writers on the two computers are not compatible if one just

formats the CD then copies the Database. I had to go a stage further and

prepare the CD so it could be read from any CD-Rom or Writer.

Possibly I will have to take the CD writer from my computer and install

it on the second computer, this will be cumbersome and I am hoping to

find an easier way around the problem.

Is there any other approach that you can think of.

Regards

Don

You can use the ATTRIB.EXE:

    Example: Attrib -R <drive:\folder\FILENAME.EXT>

Don,

You cannot change the property for the file on the CD. Does the program

on the second computer have the Read Only property checked off? (Again,

go to the folder the program is located, right-click the program and

select Properties.

I have problem converting my database files to Access database files.

I was able to convert the file into Excel and an attempt to convert from

there into Access only created link to the excel file. This is not what i

want.

Any help would be appreciated.

With love from,

Yemi

If this is a one-time import then go to File>Get External Data>Import,

select the file to import and then follow the prompts. I would suggest

importing to a new table, then append the data in your new table to the

table you actually want to store the data.

If this is going to be a recurring event, go to help and check-out

docmd.transferspreadsheet.
