Hi all
We have a quotes Report Developed in Access 2000, that prints Perfect
Using Windows 9x, using a HP LaserJet 2100. The code that sits behind the
report tells access to send the report to the specific printer above.
This is becuase the paper tray in loaded with pre printed paper
specifically for the above.
Some of the machines in the office now have Windows 2000 Installed. When
trying to print from these Machines Access Reports that it can't find HP
LaserJet Printer.
Is the problem an Access 2000 issue when instructing access to print to a
specif printer in code
or
does windows 2000 handle printer spooling diferently from Win 9x
Regards
Simon

Simon,
This may or may not be the answer, but it is worth looking at:
When Access looks for a specific printer it simply looks for the Name of the
Printer EXACTLY as listed in the Printers Folder under
Start/Settings/Printers. (This becomes clearer if you use the "Details"
instead of the "Large Icons" listing). It doesn't care what the printer
actually is.
Generally, particularly with network printers, Win 2K gives a default name
to a particular printer on installation which is different that given by
other versions of windows.
e.g. If your printer was called "HP LaserJet Printer" under Windows 9x, it
may well be called "HP LJ2100 on ServerName" or something similar. Simply
renaming this Icon in the Printers folder should enable Access to find the
printer.
I hope it works. Let us know if it does.

I have tried this but unfortunately where in Win 9x you would just right-
click on the printer and rename it to what you want, this doesnt seem to
be the case with W2000. There simply isnt a rename option! Am I missing
something? Is there a backdoor somewhere to allow this?

Yip
Go to the printer,
Right-Click on the applicable printer
select properties
In the General Tab, change the name of the printer
NS Make sure that this does not effect the general share of the printer
although it should not effect the share name specified.
Let me know
Helga
