I am running Win 2000 Professional and installed the Evaluation Edition of
SQL 2000. A directory, C:\Documents and Settings was established at some
point during setupand setting the security. The directory has the folders
for user information.
Since setting this up I notice that whenever I open existing Access file or
start a new one I get a message saying, ?Cannot find C:\Documents and
Settings\AllUsers\Desktop\My Access File Name.mdb?. The file opened with
the message minimized on the task bar.
My Access File Name.mdb, refers to the name of the Access file that I am
trying to open.
In other instances it tell me it cant find the file I am looking for but
still opens it while giving the error message minimized on the task bar.
How can I resolve this.
Thanks

Basically, don't install the evaluation edition of SQL 2000 it screws with
your registry, and when it runs out, it still thinks it is there. The same
thing is true with Norton Virus Scanner. When Word opens for example, it
keeps coming up with errors because norton is still in the system.
Completely remove SQL server evaluation edition. you may need to download
a removal tool, or check your registry. Norton didn't let me uninstall it
from my computer directly. If that doesn't work, reinstall office (don't
repair as it never works). If you want to try SQL server stuff without SQL
server, use the MSDE that comes with Microsoft Office located in the SQL
folder on your ms office CD. Another problem I had once was with Microsoft
Excel, I wrote a macro that lost all of my excel file associations. It
said Windows cannot find filename etc, So I could never open files from
within Windows Explorer. So I chose, tools > Run > regserver typed in
something like 'excel' and then run and it fixed it It may be worth trying
the same with Access This was a nightmare to fix so if it helps, let me
know.
