Hi!
I have recently installed an Access 2000 database at a customer's site and
about twice a week they are receiving the 'Unrecognised Database Format'
error message. Each time the database repairs successfully but I need to
stop this from happening so much. Please could I have any thoughts on the
following:
1. I have experienced similar problems twice before (out of many databases
that I have installed) and both times the problem was solved by
identifying and changing a faulty network card. The problem is that the
network card behaved fine for everything else except Access.
2. I am not convinced that this customer has a sensible network
configuration but I do not know enough about network systems to advise
them sensibly at the moment. Their 'server' (it's actually just a peer-to
peer network) is running Win95 and the users are running a variety of
operating systems such as Win95, Win98, Win2000 etc. Does this sound bad?
3. Each user has a local front-end and the data sits on the back-end
Win95 'server'. There are about 7 concurrent users and one thought I have
is to update the 'server' operating system to Windows 2000 server or even
NT 4.0 and perhaps install SQL server and convert the back-end to SQL.
Does this sound sensible and would it solve the problem?
Many thanks,
Paul
