access thread: Access '97:problem when compacting

HI,
When i try to compact my database , in Access 97, it
gives me a message :
==> record(s) can't be read; no read permission on
c:\work\NIF.mdb
???
it does not compact.
Can someone helps me ???

In fact , it compacts but the new mdb compacted has a another
name ==> bd1.mdb

Are you using NT?
If you are have you got administrator rights?
If not do you have permission to delete and rename the database?
Unless you have delete and rename rights to your database, Access will be
unable to delete NIF.mdb and rename db1.mdb to NIF.mdb as it does
during compact procedure. If you try to compact it the second time you
will get db2.mdb and so on...
Is the database read only?
Right-click on NIF.mdb, select Properties. In General check if Read Only
attribute is checked (uncheck if it is).
