access thread: Changing access security settings

Message #1 by "Lewin Trussler" <lewint@b...> on Fri, 24 May 2002 13:10:52 +0100
Dear Gurus,

I've just moved Access 97 MDB and its associated System.MDW file from a
workgroup to a new domain. I now cannot access any of the objects in the
database in any way. What ever I do, whether opening, accessing, or trying
to copy to a new DB, I always get the message "you do not have permission to
..."

Also, using access security, Access will not allow me to change any
permissions to anything - always giving me the same error. It appears that
"Admin" does not have "Admin" permissions!

Does anyone know of a good way of cracking Access, or a legit way that I can
sort this problem out?

Yours.. hopefully,

Lewin Trussler,
Systems Administrator, Basingstoke Community Churches, UK.

Just to check out the possibilities....

Are you using a shortcut which is now incorrect? i.e. pointing at an
   incorrect path
Have you joined the new workgroup? When you do this you are modifying
the registry to point at the .mdw file - it is not sufficient to simply
copy the files over to the new domain - this is the most likely cause of
   your problem

Not sure if my last reply got posted ...

Unfortunately, I've check all those! I'm definately not using a shortcut,
or anything like that. I've tried copying the DB locally, and then
creating a new clean .mdw file, wioth no joy.

In fact.. I've just put a clean Access 97 install on a new machine, and
tried the thing on that .. still no joy!
