Hi all
I've secured a database using user level security and put it up on the
network drive along with the link it created while securing the
database. But since that link also has a pointer to the location of Access
Software files it doesn't work for some people since they have Access
installed on different locations on their computers. Is there any solution
to this problem.Any help would be greatelly appreciated.
Thanks
Amit
I have the same sort of problem. The way I go about it is making sure that the user has a
shortcut on their own desktop, this way it is machine specific.
I figured a way - it's fairly crappy - that creates a shortcut, however it only seems to work on
NT based machines - so if any users are on Win9x it's useless - hence, I don't use it (I have a
vast mix of different machines on my network - 98,98SE, NT4, 2K, XP)
So the short answer is - no - there's no real easy way around it.
BUT. if your users have only one version of Access installed - you could write a little login script
(which would depend on your network setup) that would make them permanent users of that
workgroup (If you have two versions - eg 97 and 2000 installed, the workgroup is reset all the
time)
