Does anyone know how to view .db files with DBU.EXE?
Thanks.

Steven,
<< Does anyone know how to view .db files with DBU.EXE? >>
DBU.EXE is a DOS program that works with dBASE III, IV, and V. I assume
(wrong?) that newer versions of dBASE are Windows-based and work using
other interfaces. I use dBASE III files (extension .DBF). You just call
up DBU.EXE then press F2 to open a database and its index files, and you
press F5 to browse the data.
You can use Microsoft Access to view and manipulate data much better by
linking to the .DBF file. However, once you change data using Access, you
MUST use DBU.EXE to open the database and its indeces and then you MUST
use F6 to PACK the .DBF file. If you don't, the users won't see the
changes you made to the data.

Hi, Greg,
Thanks for your reply.
Your information is very helpful.
Using DBU.exe, I created files.dbf, and opened, browsed these .dbf files,
but when I tried to open or view .db files or .mdb files, I failed.
Using Access, we can access non-Access files such as .dbf files by
establishing a link. For DBU.exe, do you think that we can establish some
kind of link so that we are allowed to view non .dbf files? Does DBU.exe
only create or access files with extension .dbf?
Thanks
Steven

Glad I could help.

DBU.EXE cannot open Microsoft Access .MDB files. Nor would you want
to! :) Stick to Access opening .DBF files.

I've never tried, but you probably can import ASCII delimited text. Other
than that suspicion, no, DBU.EXE only works with .DBF files.
Later versions of dBASE may change those answers I gave above. Anyone who
has the latest dBASE version, please let us know. My version is old.
