access thread: Autonumber field resetting to Number data type

Message #1 by "Enzo Zaragoza" <enzaux@g...> on Fri, 17 Jan 2003 11:55:40 +0800

I'm just wondering because there was this existing database that was made before
I was in the company and now it's giving me a head ache coz there are times that it gets
corrupted no matter solution I've used.

a. reformatted all the pc and having same OS
b. splitting the database
c. placing the tables in the new mdb
d. compacted and repaired

But still corruption occurs. So I use third party software to repair the corrupted
database that jetpcomp could not handle also anymore. Luckily the mdb is repairable by the
software, but what concerns me most is that on the main table there with the autonumber field
was reset to a Number data type and of course as we all know we can't make it autonumber again
unless you create another field to be an autonumber. Luckily the ID autonumber
was not linked on any other tables so there is no really a problem. But this concerns me because
what if the ID was used to linked in other tables and then it goes like the scenario then I'm
in total chaos.

Any tips, suggestion, or anything coz i dont know what to ask :D I'm just curious
on whats the worst thing can happen in a corrupted database :(

Thanks,

Try to prevent it getting corrupted in the first place.

Most of the time its due to using incorrect coding techniqes.
