Hello Access,
Is there a setting to make access read only
I want to attach an mdb front end via linked tables so people can
write there own queries.
I am trying find a method to make the link read only

the easiest way is to produce query writing tools via forms. Then produce
an mde file and don't let them get at the database itself.

Can you point us (me) to an example of this? Does it make queries non
updateable? I have a similar need with a user who has Access on his
machine and knows just enough to be dangerous. He also goes by Dilbert's
boss's philosophy that anything he doesn't understand is unimportant and
can be ignored. Also, the rights to files is an issue. Am I correct in
thinking that the user must have read, write, and file scan to the back
end mdb and read, write, create, filescan, and erase to the same name as
the mdb dot ldb? I.e. if we are talking about F:\folder\mybackend.mdb,
he has to be able to create and erase F:\folder\mybackend.ldb.

Apply Access security to both the front and back end databases. Give your
users read-only access to the tables in the back-end. Give them full access
to the front-end to allow them to write queries.
