ado_dotnet thread: VB.Net code samples for Profressional ADO.NET Programming?

Message #1 by "Kel good" <kggood@p...> on Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:04:04
Does anyone know if samples in VB.Net are available or will be made

available for the book Professional ADO.NET Programming? I bought it

assuming it would have both and see it is predominantly C# code.

Thanks.

Download the code for the book at www.wrox.com. It includes both the C#

and VB.NET code samples.

Hi Kel,

There are some good VB samples in the .net SDK documentation.

Let me know if I can be of help.

Thanks for your reply Doug. I may just be missing something, but except for

the Chapter 2 files (where the book also gives some examples in VB), all the

sample files that are code related appear to have the .cs ending, not the

.vb ending.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply Willis. I know information can be found elsewhere, I

just had hoped I could work through the book with code that matched the

book.

Some of the chapters other than chapter 2 have the VB examples. Not all

of them, but some (ch5, ch9, ch12, ch14, ch16). When I bought the book,

this was the first thing I checked. I only bought the book because it

said that the majority of the examples would be in C# (page 19).

Yes, I'll definitely have to pay closer attention to this in the future when

I am evaluating books. I have no issue with books emphasizing one language

over another. I would have thought the cover would emphasize this, rather

than requiring the book itself be read. I just wish they would include code

samples for everything in other languages. (Though this will become less and

less practical, the more languages are carted to .Net Presently I think

most people are really looking for either VB.Net or C#. :-)

Since we really are all poised to become .Net programmers now, rather than

VB, C++, C# programmers, the underlying object model is the key issue. The

differences on how different languages utilize this model is subtle. I

certainly could probably work through the book and figure out how to

translate it. Since Wrox has a book (planned or already published I'm not

sure) called C# Data, this would also make one think there would be more

VB.Net in one just called ADO.Net.

Oh well. Live and learn.

Thanks again for your feedback. :-)

I appreciate the one named "Beginning Visual Basic .Net Database", though

I'm not a beginner. It covers a lot of ground. The one named "Professional

VB.Net" does a good bit of DB stuff. Those two books can quickly push you

over the re-learning hurdle.

I think the the language used in the book shouldn't

matter.

It would be nice though to have downloadable examples

in both languages.
