asp_cdo thread: Using IIS SMTP versus Exchange SMTP

I have a server that is running SMTP service for Exchange instead of SMTP
for IIS. IS there a way to enable CDONTS using SMTP for exchange?
If not, will SMTP for IIS allow for the same functionality as SMTP for
Exchange? I received a message that I had to uninstall SMTP for Exchange
before installing SMTP for IIS.

Could you please be more specific what you mean with "SMTP service for
Exchange"?
Exchange 5.5 Server with the Internet Mail Service?
Or Exchange 2000 Server?
