asp_database_setup thread: requesting help untangling config

Message #1 by Mike A Goldman <mg188@c...> on Sat, 29 Jun 2002 13:08:28 -0700
Hi All,

Running win98se and I just set up a new dialup isp and now can't test my asp
pages using localhost offline on pws. Pws is running. When I try to run an
asp page, which has "localhost" in the pathname, I get an error that the
page isn't available offline and asks if I want to logon. I think it just
keeps trying to go through the isp's server rather than access the pages on
my local harddrive.

Had no problem with this a year ago on this machine when I was using cable
for internet. The localhost thing also worked fine last week when this was
a standalone machine (no internet connection).

The ISP tech support didn't know, and I get a server error when
trying to access the pws product documentation page. I know this has got to
be something simple, but it's got me stumped.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Mike

Hi Mike
try to go in Internet options connection tab.
Set the connection properties
so that the browser does not dial a connection.
Maybe it will help if not write back
Cheers

Just another thing
If you can get win 2K or XP so you will be able to
use a proper information server.
PWS is not bad for testing but has limitations and some problems too.
Using the IIS you will have many benefits in many ways.
Best regards
Nikos

Nope - that didn't work. I also saw your other post with advice to switch
to win2k or xp, which is planned (win2k), but about 3-4 weeks off. Thanks
for advice. So basically, in the meantime, I'm trying to get pws and a
dialup 56k connection to co-exist. Any advice?

Regards,
Mike
