    I'm a big Wrox fan.  And not so big a fan of Microsoft right now.



    I've made numerous attempts to install MDAC2.5 on my NT4.0 Server and

Win98 Development machine, and found that 1) I didn't have a Data Link 

layer

type available, 2) no MSADC folder on my IIS (also version 4), 3) ISAM

errors.

    I ran Component Checker, a program made available by Microsoft, and

found 8 file errors, mostly version mismatches.  After uncompressing

MDAC2.5, I found out that sure enough, the critical files included

(OLEDB32.dll, Oleaut, ex) were of the wrong version.

    I deinstalled MDAC25, replaced it with MDAC21.  It works.  Now the

problem is, my IE5 browser won't accept the following VBscript syntax...

    dim keyRS, keyConn

    set keyRS = Createobject("ADODB.Recordset")

    set keyConn = Createobject("ADODB.Connection")



'Error - ActiveX controls unable to create ADODB object



    ~or~

    dim keyRS As New ADODB.Recordset



    ~or~

    dim keyRS As ADODB.Recordset

    set keyRS = New ADODB.Recordset



Further background:  Yes, the ADODB 2.1 library is referenced, and 

available

in Object Browser in the VBA editor.

    The declaration of the RDS.Datacontrol passed muster with the 

debugger.



    Any ideas on why this syntax won't work in a 2.1 environment?  Or, 

what

is the correct syntax?   Or, what further settings must I make on my

machines so that this will work?

    And, have you heard any word from Microsoft about a fix release for 

MDAC

2.5?



    I am the sole IT person at a small non-profit, responsible for 

building

our first Intranet-based database system with grave strategic value.  All 

I

have to go on are your books, John Papa's ADO 2.5 and ASP 3.0, and what

little information I can glean from the vast spiderweb of Microsoft's

Web-page.  And asking them these questions?  Forget it, we're not very 

rich.

I'm falling behind in my project, and this snag is the reason why, so, any

help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
