asp_databases thread: Differences between programming ASP for Oracle and MS Access
Dear experts,
I may soon be writing ASP pages for Oracle databases (that's Oracle 8, to
be precise).
So far I've been a whiz at writing ASP pages for MS Access, especially
since the VBA programming I'm accustomed to translates to ASP's use of
VBScript so well. The creation of recordsets and looping through them is
all very simple for me in that respect.
If I take on an Oracle to ASP project, what can I expect in terms of
differences? Are there syntactical differences in the way that code is
written for creating recordsets and working with the objects contained
within (fields, etc.)? Will I be able to take on the challenge if it's
something I haven't done before?
It seems someone may be making a huge investment in their belief in my
ability to do this, and I don't want to let anyone down. Has anyone
programmed ASP for both Oracle and Access? Can you elaborate on the
differences between the two? I expect I won't be able to go to the Oracle
database and just write up my own queries when I need them, as I do for
Access, but beyond that, is the programming any different?
I'm facing a very new step in my career and it's quite daunting! I'll be
happy to receive any experiences/feedback that anyone is willing to share.
Timorously,
Susan
