Subject: [asp_databases] SQL importing question

Hi everyone

I was given a text file db that consited of the following fields:

JTG 001|JANET JACKSON HITS!|POCKET SONGS|RHYTHM &

BLUES|VOCAL|CDG||1|JACKSON, JANET|AGAIN|3|46|C|29.98|JACKSON,

JANET|Y|11/1/00

JTG 001|JANET JACKSON HITS!|POCKET SONGS|RHYTHM &

BLUES|VOCAL|CDG||17|JACKSON, JANET|WHEN I THINK OF YOU|4|18|A|29.98|JACKSON,

JANET|Y|11/1/00

I used xcel to import the information so the field can be imported to sql

correctly. It looked like this.

 The UID field I input it myself. and the rest of the fields were generated

when i imported the text file. Here's my issue though. I imported the excel

file to SQL

and it turned out like the above, which is great. I tried changing the UID

field to a unique identifier but it wouldn't let me. Saying it can't set it

to NULL identifier. So basically I can't get it to increment when i add new

records. it justs puts a <NULL> value in the UID field. Can anyone help with

this?

Best Regards

I'm sorrie the data fields seem out of wack on this email. In the second

example the excel sheet the 1,2,3, before the JTG stuff is in the UID field.

there are no null values in the UID field after i imported them

  perhaps you have in the table some blank lines..

  remove them, and try again to change UID fields...
