asp_databases thread: ASP hosting server

Message #1 by "Houssein Faraj EL-Shtewi" <mfkhadiga@h...> on Mon, 9 Dec 2002 14:59:33
Dear Sir

I know that MySQL as a database can be hosted on both Linux and Windows
servers. BUT I have been told that ASP as a Microsoft cannot be hosted on
any WEB server EXCEPT on those, which are Microsoft based such as Windows
NT server.
So I do not mean the conjunction of the ASP with MySQL, I mean the WEB
server that would host ASP.

Therefore, Must the WEB server that would host ASP be a Microsoft based
or not necessary? Please confirm.

    Thanks so much

generally speaking, Yes ASP is microsoft only. Having said that there are
products like ChilliSoft that allow ASP to be run on other platforms.

What are you looking for? Maybe PHP will do what you want - its same idea
as ASP (different language though) and runs on Apache server.

Hi everyone

Sorry if I took / understood your query wrong but
I have used ASP with MySQL successfully on LINUX
Server.

Take good care of yourselves

Hi
I have been told that ASP provides an Active Server Pages port to the Apache Web Server BUT with Perl scripting only.
Does this mean that I can run ASP scripts only with Perl? Do I need to use Perl scripts along with ASP scripts? Can you please tell
me what does that mean?
Thanks,
Houssein
