You can access a free web service that translates a limited number of 

language-pairs.  You can submit text or urls and get back a 

machine-translated version.  Check out www.FreeTranslation.com and 

follow the 'Link to Us' link.  If you want to directly access the 

translation servers on the web, you will have to contact them and find 

out if they will give you permission and information on how to do that.  

I'm not sure that they will allow that. This is a website I am running 

until sometime this week when ownership changes hands.  There is also a 

commercial version of the service at www.plustranslation.com.

Did you just go to the web page and try to translate a chunk of text?  

Are you behind a proxy server?  I don't know enough about what you did 

to suggest a solution.  If you can tell me more, I will try to help.

The proxy server can be configured to block traffic on the port used by 

the translation server, 5081.  Some companies have their proxies 

tightened down to increase the security level and might not let any 

services through except a few like http on port 80.  My guess is it's at 

your end.  Can you try it from a different computer that is not behind 

the proxy?
