asp_web_howto thread: request.servervariables("HTTP_REFERER") in Netsca- pe 6.x

Message #1 by Shaun Steckley <SSTECKLEY@P...> on Wed, 14 Nov 2001 16:38:13 -0500
Is anyone else having problems reading the "HTTP_REFERER" server variable

when using Netscape 6.x in a SSL environment. The value appears to always

be blank.

Thanks.

Shaun

I haven't personally run into to this problem but I have seen others

complain of it. This was posted on slashdot - perhaps the feature appears

in NS6 too?

On the subject of cookies there's a feature in Mozilla (Netscape) 5.0 that

allows you to enter 'Anonymous Mode' and it does this by giving you an

empty cookies file (so sites that insist on using cookies still can) and

not sending any HTTP_REFERRER information so they don't know what site

referred you. Disabling anonymous mode returms your normal cookies file,

discards the anonymous cookies file and starts sending HTTP_REFERRER

information again.
