asp_web_howto thread: ASP 0115 error

Message #1 by "Enzo Zaragoza" <enzaux@g...> on Tue, 18 Dec 2001 06:21:33 +0800

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------=_NextPart_000_02B6_01C1878C.3D73E060

Content-Type: text/plain;

	charset="iso-8859-1"

Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

hi guys!

I have this problem regarding this ASP error, this error does not

shows what line number the error occurs, which somehow means the runtime

environment for Active Server Pages is corrupted. the page shows:

error 'ASP 0115'

Unexpected error

/espdemo/admin/default.asp

A trappable error occurred in an external object. The script cannot

continue running.

The webserver has two applications running. One is a Credit Union

Statement application which was made by an expert and the second one an

online ordering system made by me (a newbie). The Credit Union

application is highly complicated and well done. It is running

perfectly until the time they had my application installed (that's what

one employee says) but my application is not that frequently used yet

because it is still on a testing process. Do you think there is a

slight possibility that my application causes the problem? I know that

my application is not that complicated and advance. i didnt even used

any dlls or com or other components except of course for msado15.dll. I

have installed ASP mail on the server, does it affect the other dlls to

make the credit union application cause the error? When this error

occurs, we need to restart the webserver to fix the error but of course

this is not a permanent solution for this.

I have found a link on microsoft that talks about this error

(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=3Dkb;EN-US;q194190 ) but

it seems that its too advance for me and I can't understand it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Enzo :)

Hi,

Some times back even we had the same problem. the error is because of

permission problem(According to Microsoft site)try to give permission to

all the directories that is including system32 and inetsrv directory

which you may be using.

we have noticed that if once that error occurs the whole application

(website) reports the same error.if u are using CDONTS give appropraite

permissions to the driectory where you are stroing the attachmnets

hope it helps

Can you post the source for this page please? What objects are you

instantiating on the page? Is the application running in-process or

out-of-process?

Cheers

Ken

Hi ken!

I can't paste the code for the page because I dont have the asp. I'm

in the philippines and my boss is in US and also the webserver is in

there. He was just telling me that they were getting these errors and

they need to restart the webserver to fix the error but of course it is

not permanent everytime an error occur they need to restart again. then

someone also from there told me that ever since the application I've

made was installed the error showed up. Now I was wondering if there is

really something wrong with my application to cause the previous

application to have errors. I'll see if I can get their codes. Thank

you very much Ken for your willingness to help!!

Thanks,

Enzo :)

What is your application written in? If it is just ASP without calling any

external objects (DLLs), then you probably are not generating the 115.

Usually, in our experience, the 115 is caused by a DLL that is either not

compiled correctly (if it's a VB DLL, you need to have "Unattended

Execution" and "Retained in Memory" set in the project properties -- also,

if it uses transaction server, the MTSTransactionMode for the class

properties needs to be set correctly). When we've made sure all of our DLLs

are compiled correctly, the 115 error has disappeared.

Owen

My app uses msado15.dll while the previous application where the error

occurs a custom made dll made in vb. But the dll was last updated last

June 2001.

I forgot to mention the other thing that caused 115 errors in our case:

applications that caused a GPF.

What is your application written in? If it is just ASP without calling

any external objects (DLLs), then you probably are not generating the 115.

I can't paste the code for the page because I dont have the asp.

I'm in the philippines and my boss is in US and also the webserver is in

there. He was just telling me that they were getting these errors and they

need to restart the webserver to fix the error but of course it is not

permanent everytime an error occur they need to restart again. then someone

Ken,

For my application I'm only using 1 connection object (ObjConn) and

the rest are recordsets and one thing ASP mailer component

(SMTPsvg.Mailer) . Do you think asp mailer has something to do with the

ASP error 0115 on the previous working application? They're blaming my

application to be the cause of this problem because they said that the

error start occuring when they had my application installed.

Not usually. ASP 0115 means that your application (IIS) crashed and Windows

does not know (or refuses to tell you) why. It is not usually caused by

system DLLs. Make sure, though, that the latest service packs for both IIS

and Windows (IIS first, Windows second) are installed. Also, check the

K thanks its because until now cant figure out what cause the error. My

4.) ASP mailer object

5.) msado15.dll

What is your application written in? If it is just ASP without

calling any external objects (DLLs), then you probably are not

generating the 115. Usually, in our experience, the 115 is caused by a

DLL that is either not compiled correctly (if it's a VB DLL, you need to

have "Unattended Execution" and "Retained in Memory" set in the project

properties -- also, if it uses transaction server, the

MTSTransactionMode for the class properties needs to be set correctly).

When we've made sure all of our DLLs are compiled correctly, the 115

error has disappeared.

      Regards,

      Owen

        Hi ken!

I can't paste the code for the page because I dont have the

asp. I'm in the philippines and my boss is in US and also the webserver

is in there. He was just telling me that they were getting these errors

and they need to restart the webserver to fix the error but of course it

is not permanent everytime an error occur they need to restart again.

then someone also from there told me that ever since the application

I've made was installed the error showed up. Now I was wondering if

there is really something wrong with my application to cause the

previous application to have errors. I'll see if I can get their codes.

Thank you very much Ken for your willingness to help!!

        Thanks,

        Enzo :)

Can you post the source for this page please? What objects are

you

instantiating on the page? Is the application running

in-process or

          out-of-process?

          Cheers

          Ken

          hi guys!

I have this problem regarding this ASP error, this error

does not shows

what line number the error occurs, which somehow means the

runtime

environment for Active Server Pages is corrupted. the page

shows:

          error 'ASP 0115'

          Unexpected error

          /espdemo/admin/default.asp

A trappable error occurred in an external object. The script

cannot continue

          running.
