Use client-side script. Javascript provides an alert() function that you can
use to generate a "message box"

Cheers

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------_=_NextPart_001_01C1F830.864D3310
Content-Type: text/plain;
	charset="us-ascii"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

You need to use the VBscript Clientside ro Javasript client side. If
you use the VBscript on the server side, you can't make it appear on the
client side machine.

Thanks,

Chris Thompson

Hi All,

  I'm getting this error when I'm trying to display a msgbox...

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'
Permission denied: 'msgbox'
/Intranet_Messenger/checkmessage.asp, line 21

  I understand that this is because the msgbox is trying to display on
the server side but what I don't know is, how do I make it appear on the
client side instead?

  Any ideas?

  Thanks in advance

Ken

alert("This is the Message box function in JavaScript");

Or, give your IIS server EXECUTE rights, and do this:
<script Language="VBScript">
msgbox("Message box for VBS Clientside")
</script>
> Client side = Javascript

I suspect the original poster wanted to have the client read a server side
generated message based upon some event happening.

One way to do this is create a hidden field on the client and assign
the asp variable to the hidden field. Then call client side VBScript
or Javascript to prompt message:

<%
   '  ASP CODE
   srvMessage = "Server Message Test"
%>

<form name=frm1 method=post action=samepage.asp>
    <input type=hidden name=hideme value="<%=srvMessage%">
    <input type=button name=myButton onclick="showMsg()">
<script language=Javascript>
<!--
     function showMsg()
     {
           var strMsg;
           strMsg = document.frm1.hideme.value;
           alert(strMsg);
     }

-->
</script>

OR

<script language=VBScript>
sub showMsg()
        Dim strMsg
        strMsg = document.frm1.hideme.value
        Msgbox(strMsg)
end sub
</script>
</form>
