asp_web_howto thread: free host doesn't run application_onStart

Message #1 by "Alex Shiell, ITS, EB, SE" <alex.shiell@s...> on Fri, 8 Nov 2002 14:28:53 -0000
Hi People,

I'm trying to get a site that I've done up and running on a free host for
preview purposes before choosing a host for when the site goes live. I've
always used Brinkster in the past, but this site has an Application_onStart
procedure which simply does not run when I try running the site from
Brinkster. Their technical support are (understandably since I'm not paying
them) not replying to my queries. I've also tried uploading the site to
1ASPHost, and the same problem occurs. This is obviously because each user
simply has a Virtual directory rather than an Application in IIS.

Does anyone know of a free ASP host (or at least one that gives you the
first month free), or a cheap one, that does not have this problem?

Alex,
Are you just looking for a host to test it on temporarily? I have an IIS
server I run at home off my dsl line (not the fastest thing in the world
but it works) that I can put your stuff on temporarily. E-mail me off
list if your interested.

Scott

http://www.savinghosting.com You can get 10 MB NT based hosting site with unlimited pop email for $24
per year. (That's right, per year not month.) If Linux based and PHP works for you the cost is only $12. I have been using them
for the past 6 months and have never had a noticeable outage and get reasonable response time. Their tech support will respond
within 24 hours too! If you want to check the response time try my personal page of some fun graphics that is hosted there.
