their seems to be a problem with the server controls...
i will be formatting soon and putting 2000 server on instead however i
havent a day off for a while and would still like to do some practice on

The Beta 1 won't run on a Windows 98 box, I'm afraid, Mike. Only Nt4 and
the various flavours of Win2K will support it.

Try the following URL (it might wrap)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/000/976/msdncompositedoc.xml
or go to http://www.asp.net
HtH
Imar
P.s. The .NET beta's are available for everyone, even without an MSDN
subscription. Only for the Visual Studio Beta you need a subscription to be
able to download it. Otherwise, you can order it on CD.

But...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/000/976/msdncompositedoc.xml
clearly states that the SDK runs on Windows 98 AND WinMe !!!
And at microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.sdk.setup
several reports state that asp.net DOES run on Win98.

So it does! And yet I could swear I've seen explicit declarations to the
contrary. Maybe they've changed their tune over this since the Beta 1 was
released? Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention :)?
Thanks, Juan! (Now, do I go home and put the beta on my home PC, _that's_ the question?)

Daniel,
Except for the server technology -- ASP.NET -- the .NET SDK *does* run on
Windows 98 and Windows ME. ASP.NET is the exception. You can, of course,
use W98/WME as your dev box, but you'll need to develop against a server
somewhere. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Thanks, Susan.
This is, still, somewhat confusing.
Which part of the SDK "runs" on Win98 and WinMe,
( which, as you know, run PWS ), if the ASP.NET
"server technology" doesn't run on them/it ?
The compilers ?
That's about all that's left, asides from the documentation.
If so, perhaps a note to that effect is in order.
When developers read that "the SDK runs on Windows 98 AND WinMe",
they expect that the "server technology" run on those OS's.
Otherwise, the MSDN reference should just mention the compilers.
Also, does SDK setup attempt to install ASP.NET on Win98 and/or WinMe ?
Will that have any negative effects on PWS and/or the OS's ?
( Since the "server technology" will not run, why install it ? )
Lastly: will Beta 2 support the "server technology" running on Win98/WinMe ?
Thanks for your comments...

Specifically, PWS/personal web server is not a supported web server for
ASP.NET. You'll have to serve the pages up from a server box (WNT/W2K).
This is also the plan for the final release of this version. There's a lot
of other stuff in the SDK in addition to ASP.NET (Windows Forms, for
example) that you can both develop and run on a W98/WME box.
I can pass on your comments about the text you quote below -- we should
clarify it if we can. Can you please send me a little information on where
you saw it?
thanks,
Susan
