aspx thread: Installation

I've been using ASP.NET for a while now, via the download. My CD's arrived
this morning and now attempting to install the whole caboodle on my
machine - but bombs out at the first hurdle. Here's the steps I've taken:
1. Reformat machine.
2. Fresh install of Win2k Pro.
3. Insert Beta1 CD1 - then prompted to insert Component update CD.
4. Component update CD then attempt to install a variety of components but
nothing is installed - error message - 'A problem has been encountered in
the Windows 2000 Service Pack 1setup component. Cancelling setup'
Machine Spec -
Athalon 700
128MB Ram
20 Gb HD
Can anyone throw some light on my predicament? After the fresh install, I
installed nothing else on my machine.

I dont know, but since it's the Win2K SP1 that's having the problems, try installing
it from a different source. I installed sp1 from a download a few weeks before my
beta cd's arrived - it installed no problem.

Thanks, in the end I had to install each component individually by putting
the exe's onto my production machine and extracting them over to my test
machine. Very odd. Anyway, I'm up and running. VS.NET is really cool, it's
like a more sophisticated version of Drumbeat 2000 :)

I don't think it will work well on Win2K Pro. You must get Windows 2000 S
erver
if this thing has to work.
