Much as I hate to be the tider of bad news, but I'm sure buried away in
the
documentation is a recommendation that to make sure beta 2 works, after
uninstalling beta 1, you need to completely reformat the hard drive.
It's a
drastic and horrible step, but I'm pretty sure if you read the
documentation
on installing/uninstalling, it's there.

I can also test to this... I followed the uninstall procedures set forth in
the readme.htm documentation. Using the "add/remove programs" might remove
the .NET Framework but as far as the registry is concerned, everything is
still there. This might be the main reason to reformat you hard drive to
install the Beta2 due to the fact there is no real uninstall program for
Beta1 in removing all registry keys created during the installation.

Yeah in fact I had to do the same, but as my machine is riddled with
beta
software, I couldn't totally place the blame on .NET alone.

Oddly enough, my installation went OK. I uninstalled beta1 (framework only,
not VS.NET) and beta2 installed just fine.

Ah, that might be true... I was using the .NET Framework / SDK and VS.NET
Beta1... To install VS.NET Beta2 I had to reformat due to all of the
registry entries made and not removed during the uninstall. When trying to
install VS.NET Beta2 it will tell you that you cannot install Beta2 until
the Beta1 is fully uninstalled. Funny though one of my co-workers (a DBA
looking into the SP features against SQL2K) had installed the .NET Framework
/ WCU / .NET SDK / and the full VS.NET Beta1 but never got a chance to use
it. He never even opened VS.NET once and went through the uninstall with
"add/remove" programs, then tried to install Beta2 .NET Framework / WCU /
.NET SDK / as well as the full VS.NET Beta2 and the installation went fine!
O'Well, so what I am hearing is if you installed just the .NET Framework the
uninstall works, but on the other hand if you were like me and installed
(AND USED) VS.NET Beta1 you are going to have to reformat your hard drive
due to the registry entries not being uninstalled as well from Beta1.

In my experience VS.NET beta 1 is one big bug when trying un-install without
having to reformat your hard-drive.
The aspfree.com server had just the .NET framework loaded on it. My home dev
box's i've had to re-load from scratch each new build of VS.NET. One option
is steve smith from aspalliance.com uses vmware.
steps i did to get beta 2 on aspfree.com working.
1. un-install beta 1 of the .NET framework on the aspfree.com server.
2 .clean the directorys up, delete the virtual directorys. I (didn't clean
the registry though)
3. install the .NET framework beta 2 reboot.
4. install mdac 2.7
5. install the sdk, quickstart samples and msde and poof! all is working
with one reboot and its working like a champ! Kudo's to the
