My question may be directed to the wrong ng but nevertheless..
We're currently developing our intranet apps using asp(vbscript),
sqlserver7, javascript and interdev6(for development) but now we want to
trial development in .NET. We have 2000 NT servers with AD but not all
clients on our intranet are running 2000 professional.
What I'd really like to know is, what software do we need to install to
begin development in .net
I've recently purchased the Prof ASP.NET WP book and I see like before you
can build .net pages in notepad or just about any text editor but we've
been using interdev for development for some time now and like the el-
slacko features of a professional development tool.
Apart from this, to serve .net pages, can we do this on 2000 servers or do
we need .net servers. IIS? etc. Pls pardon the ignorance as I'm sure
most of you in the ng will be appauled our lack of knowledge in this area
but if you don't ask, you'll never find out hey?
Any direction to assistance is much appreciated.
Cheers & a good day to all.

1) To start developing a portion of the .NET projects you will need to
install at a minimum the .NET Framework SDK on machines that are running 98,
XP, 2000 Pro, and all 2000 server's e.g. Server/Advanced/Datacenter. To
develop ASP.NET apps you will need IIS 5.0 or greater.
2) You can code up any of the .NET projects from any text editor of your
liking but VS.NET is the premier choice if you like RAD environments.
