Hi,
I need to connect to a web service and call its exposed method using web
reference in java application.
Can any one specify how to do it?
Thanks in advance.
Srinivas.
> Mia,
Hm. When you adding a web reference, do you point to a URL with
.asmx extension? That's what I usually do and it works fine.
Minh.

Subject: [aspx] Adding web reference, trouble with disco-file.
Hi,
I have created a dll with a public function and it works just fine. But
when I try to add a web reference from the dll to a new web application
I
get the following errormessage:
"The content type 'application/octet-stream' is not valid for an XML
document."
The problems seems to come when adding the DISCO-file to the project. I
have also tried one example from a book, which works, but as soon as I
try
to modify the code and update the web reference the same error shows.
Does anyone have a clue what=B4s wrong?
Thanks!

Java doesn't understand .asmx files, So u're gonna have to point it to
your wsdl file. E.g. http://localhost/YourWebservice.asmx?WSDL
Hope it helps ...

I am not creating web service. In fact I am very new to the use of Web

I need to call a method from an existing service which is in place.
I am at the client side and I just need to create a web reference using

OK. Can u do a siple test for me.
Just type in the web service url on your browser. If it's a .Net web
service, u should see a page with a "Service Description" link. Click on
it, it should give u the WSDL file. Copy the link and use it in your
(Java) application.
If u don't mind maybe u can show me your URL if it's publicly available

OK now I'm with u.
1. Can u please tell us what development IDE u're using in java
(Websphere etc)
2. Which web service package have u got installed on the java side? (or
which package are u gonna use?)
The important thing to note again is that Java will only recognise your
WSDL file and not the asmx file, so please use the wsdl file (u can get
the wsdl file by adding "?wsdl" to your .asmx url)
