Hi all, I am trying desperately to load Visual Studio .NET Beta 1. In
fact, I have been at it all day. Each time I try the Windows Component
Update fails on installing Microsoft Front Page 2000 Server Extensions
QFE. I manually downloaded the server extensions and installed them,
but that still does not let the installation continue. It always says
that the components need to be updated and promps me to insert the
Windows Component Update CD and then fails on the Front Page Server
extensions QFE again..... Any ideas?
thanks,
-derek

First of all, you failed to mention which platform/server you are trying
to install on.
Secondly, why are you trying to install Beta1 when a much better beta2
is available for your consumption?

Someone posted that you could enter the following into your registry to fool
Windows Component Update:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\Q274294]
"Installed"=dword:00000001
Otherwise, uninstall SP 2, and run WCU again
Cheers
Ken

I had an issue with the Beta 2 install of the UC. MDAC 2.7 and IE6 would
not install on my ThinkPad laptop.
I had to run the install manually from the directories on the CD rather than
through the install application. Also, the MDAC install created the files
in the Documents and Settings\gobrien\local settings\Temp and then another
strange ipx0001.tmp folder. I had to run the install from there.

Try public beta 2 instead. It's much better, there's some big changes
between beta 1 and beta 2, which you're going to have to learn about,
and
with any luck it should resolve your installation problems.

Windows 2000 Pro. And I am installing Beta 1 while I wait for Beta 2 to
come on CD in the mail. It will be a few weeks. I don't have an MSDN
Universal subscription so I can't download it, right?

yes you can download it - for free - at msnd or go to http://www.asp.net and
follow the link for the asp.net beta 2 (it'll take you to the main download
page for beta 2)
i suggest you uninstall Beta 1 and just install the COMPLETE Beta 2 SDK

I know you can download ASP.NET Beta2. I have already installed that.
I have been trying to get Visual Studio .NET Beta 2. I don't think that
is free. What I have been having problems with is installing Visual
Studio Beta 1.

If you are using the Framework Beta 2, then don't use VS.Net beta 1 - there
are too many changes between the Framework Beta 1 and Framework Beta 2 for
VS.Net beta 1 to work properly. While you're waitin for VS.Net beta 2, use
Homesite or Notepad or somesuch.
Cheers
Ken
