Message #1 by "Shay Refaely" <shay@t...> on Sun, 13 Jan 2002 08:10:28
hi.

right now im running windows 2000 server with iis 5.

i also have the visual interdev.

i have downloaded .NET beta 2 and i wanted to know, if i will

install this package , will i be able to develope also at the old way ?

i mean, will i be able to use the visual interdev as i was using it before?

my wish is to learn the new technolegy , and still to use the old one, so

i can keep on using the same technolegy i use at work .

I've successfully gotten both Visual Studio 6 and VS.NET to work on the

same machine, although I'm not doing that now. I've heard, from several

people, that the best way to get both working on the same machine is to

install VS.NET first and then install VS6. Either way, it should be

possible.

Good luck.

Visual Studio.net (7.0) was designed to live side-by-side with Visual Studio 6.0 (includes Visual
Interdev).

Classic .asp pages and sites can also coexist with asp.net .aspx sites and pages and were designed to do so.

I had the same concerns b/f installing .net and vs.net but then I looked around and asked around and many others were testifying
that they had both versions of Visual studio running on the same machine without trouble.

I personally am running win2k with iis5 with vs.net and vs6 on my machine at home. I also have the same setup with two machines at
work and with no problems so far!

Of course, i doubt you'll get any 100% gaurantees from anyone and you should (always) be cautious and realize that it's possible
that the install may cause trouble... so you may not want to install on a machine that can't be wiped and rebuilt (like a production
server :-) ) and you may want to backup up important stuff...

Good luck, and enjoy!!! I certainly am :-)
