aspx_beginners thread: cannot start up visual.NET IDE in window 2000 advanced server

Message #1 by "jasonhui" <jasonhui@g...> on Sun, 8 Sep 2002 04:27:01
dear all,
i am a beginner in visual.NET and would like to start learning .NET.
However, after i have installed the whole package of Visual.NET in my
window 2000 advanced server, i have encountered a big big problem. i can't
launch the visual.NET IDE to start programming. the error displays as
follows:

1. A window entitled "Microsoft Development Environment" first popups,
which states that:
Microsoft Development Environment has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

2. A ms-dos prompt entitled "C:\program files\Microsoft visual
studio.NET\FrameworkSDK\\bin\mscordmp.exe" popups just behind the window
stated in point 1.

3. After i click to read more detail description of my error in the window
stated in point 1, i found the following error:

Error Details
An unhandled exception has been caught by the VSW exception filerer.

Error signature
AppName: devenv.exe AppvVer:7.0.9451.0 Modname: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.0.2163.1 Offset: 0000ee87

i really have no idea of what the problem is coz the window 2000 advanced
server and the visual.NET are newly installed the computer which is just
formatted. i have reformatted the computer and reinstalled all the things
and sadly, the problem still exists.

it would be grateful if anyone could tell me why this happened and how to
solve the problem. thx.

I have also installed vs.net on my win2000 server, as that is my only
machine with the right OS on it. It did install ok.

Did you install the CD's in the right order, the components, then the
vs.net cd's?

Did you try to eliminate any of the programs from installation, like C++,
C#, etc. What I do is select everything to make sure I get the shared
stuff, and then eliminate selections for specific languages. So, I only
elimated C++, C#, Foxpro, etc. I only want VB.

Did you install the program on a FAT32 or NTFS partition. I have one
FAT32 to be compatabile with my other machines which are win98's, but I
put all the .net stuff on the NTFS.

That's about all I can think of. You may want to post on the vs.net forum
at microsoft. The responses here are going to be very slow. I am still
waiting on a direct email to wrox support to help me with the fact that
their exercises are not working on my win2000 server, while other people's
exercises in this forum are working.

I am OUT OF BUSINESS in trying to learn ASP.NET and that is my PRIMARY
learning concern right now. I tried to reconstruct an exercise in VS.NET,
but I really don't know exactly which code I need to add.

Good luck, but I would definitely take it up with Microsoft.

You may want to look at the KB article for repairing
corrupted .net installation.
