To remove Macromedia Flash Player 6 Public beta follow the necessary steps
on each platform.
Windows - Internet Explorer or AOL
1. Quit your browser before removing the ActiveX control.
2. Select Start > Find Files or Folders... and enter "flash.ocx" (if you
are removing the Macromedia Flash Player 6 public beta) or "swflash.ocx"
(if you are removing Macromedia Flash Player 5 or earlier).
3. Note the path for the file that is found. If more than one copy of the
file is found, note the paths to all copies of the file. Typically this
path(s) is in the Windows system folder:
· C:\Windows\System\Macromed\Flash on Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me
· C:\WinNT\System32\Macromed\Flash on Windows NT or 2000
· C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash on Windows XP
4. Select Start > Run...
5. In the "Open" field, type the command:
regsvr32 {path}\flash.ocx /u
where {path} is the path noted from step 3.
(NOTE: Do not include {} in the command.)
6. Select OK. You should get a RegSvr32 dialog box stating that the
executable succeeded. If not, double check that the path to your Windows
system folder was entered correctly.
7. Select Start > Find Files or Folders... and enter "flash.ocx" (if you
are removing the Macromedia Flash Player 6 public beta) or "swflash.ocx"
(if you are removing Macromedia Flash Player 5) again.
8. Select the file named "flash.ocx" (or "swflash.ocx"). Right mouse click
on this file and select Delete. If more than one copy of the file exists,
delete every copy found.
9. In the Find field, enter "swflash.inf".
10. Right mouse click on this file. Select Delete.
12. Restart the machine.
Windows - Netscape
1. Quit your browser before removing the plug-in.
2. Navigate to the plug-ins folder in your browser's directory.
3. Remove the file "NPSWF32.dll."
